About Me
I started my teaching career working in a Special Needs school. I was struck by how some pupils really struggled with mainstream education. They weren’t good at remembering information and they struggled to cope with the organisational demands that secondary school requires. They found it difficult to learn something when they were just told it once and expected to get on with it; they needed to use all their senses to learn…but in a classroom there often isn’t the time for this.
I was then lucky enough to spend the next 7 years teaching in an all-boys secondary school. According to some, boys are twice as likely to have dyslexia as girls! During this time I was able to revisit my interest in dyslexia through studying for a Masters and I also gained AMBDA status (Associate Member of the British Dyslexia Association). These meant I could now identify and assess students for dyslexia, as well as teach them the skills they needed to help them improve.
I now run my own business, offering support, assessment and tutoring to dyslexic students across the Cheshire/Wirral region, as well as those experiencing Irlen Syndrome/ Visual Stress. As well as being a fully qualified teacher, I am fully insured, a member of the British Dyslexia Association and chairperson of the Chester and District Local PATOSS Group (the Professional Association of Teachers of Students with Specific learning difficulties). This invaluable network allows me to keep up-to-date with the latest research and best practice guidance, as well as the chance to share my experiences with fellow colleagues.

My Vision |
Dyslexia should not have to be a hindrance to any child’s education. Teaching and assessing dyslexic students is something I am passionate about; it is my vision to help every student I meet to improve their self-confidence and offer them the skills they need to access the education system in order to let their potential shine.
